My Students

My third-grade students are growing up in an urban setting. They range between the ages of 8 and 10. Many of my students have to overcome challenges in their home lives in order to excel and achieve at school. We have a very diverse population in our classroom. African Americans, Latinos, Multiracial, and Caucasians make up our class. Our school participates in the Federal Free School Lunch program where 100% of our students receive a nutritional meal every day.

My students are motivated.

They are hard workers. They are dreamers. My students set goals for themselves and work hard to achieve them. My students are the reason I do what I do. My students are loved by me.

My Project

Right now, in our classroom, we have a circular carpet. We have been making it work, but for 26 third grade students, personal space is a necessity. Rectangular carpet will be more plausible for all of my students. The carpet will also make it more comfortable for the classroom environment as a whole. It will also give students the option to sit, stand, and even lie down if they would like. Carpet will help to reduce noise to improve learning. The carpet will be located in our classroom library and in the front of the classroom for morning meetings/read aloud.
