Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a STEM-based charter school with 74% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches. Recently, we also became a Blue Zone School which focuses on movement and making healthy choices. The families we serve really want what is best for their kids and trust me as their teacher to help make those decisions.
The students in my classroom are struggling readers and may not have the resources at home that I can help provide in the classroom.
I encourage the students to express themselves in their work and apply it to real-life situations. I use cooperative learning strategies and encourage freedom of movement.
My Project
Our students have a lot of movement in our classes and that creates a very dirty and worn down floor. We are wanting to add desk/chair floor mats to help protect our floors from looking so worn and dirty. The other problem, is that when students are using their desks, they tend to slide.
Keep our desks stationary and protect our floors.
By adding the floor mats under the desks and chairs, they won't slide as much and it will protect our floors, which are waxed from getting worn down so quickly. This will be such a help in our classroom.
