My students need boxing gloves and punching bags in order to begin learning the fundamentals of boxing and in order to start a boxing club for physical fitness at Lucy Laney School.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are "The Greatest!" My students, however, live in an area of Minneapolis that is not always safe and that does not always allow them to play outdoors. Not all of our students have the funds to participate on sports teams outside of school.
As Muhammad Ali said, "If my mind can conceive it and my heart can believe it, then I can achieve it." Our students embody this philosophy.
They work hard in the classroom and out of the classroom.
My Project
Physical activity affects both physical and psychological well being. There is evidence to suggest physical activity promotes the ability to think rationally and deal effectively with the environment. Studies identify a significant relationship between physical fitness level and academic achievement.
Students with higher levels of physical fitness tend to have higher levels of academic achievement.
With the addition of boxing class at Lucy Laney our students will have the opportunity to exercise regularly and be part of a supportive team environment. That will improve physical health and the ability to focus and achieve at higher academic levels in the classroom. My students need boxing gloves and punching bags in order to begin learning the fundamentals of boxing and in order to start a boxing club for physical fitness at Lucy Laney School.
