My school was hit by a tornado in Missouri. Many of my students have lost family members, pets, homes, and do not have regular access to food or personal needs. My students are in desperate need to have stability in my classroom to have a home away from home where they feel safe, secure, and loved.
Our district was hit by an E5 tornado in Missouri on May 22, 2011.
I teach Kindergarten and for most of my students, this is their first year ever being in a school experience and a tragedy has already happened in their lives. My students are beginning the school year with many needs not only in their home life, but also in their school life.
My Project
I am requesting two flip cams and cases for my students. I will use these to record learning in the classroom, have students record themselves reading to show improvement in fluency and accuracy, and to have a fun, interactive class. Students can practice reading a book, then show their parents or other teacher their accomplishment in reading the book. Students will also be able to create a show at the end of the year highlighting the year's parties, important moments, and anything else they want to remember. I think it is really important this year to allow my students to make and store memories on technology that they can hold on to.
My Kindergarten students have seen so much tragedy in the last few months, more than I have ever experienced in my life.
This is their first year at school, in a classroom, and I want to make it the best place that it can be! By proving flip cams, my students will be able to document their lives this school year as well as record them reading aloud which will boost confidence to want to read more!
