My students need two flip video cameras to record their robot designs during their engineering class period.
My elementary students are laying the foundation for engineering classes in my school district. My school is the only elementary school in the state that is currently teaching the Project Lead the Way curriculum to elementary students. My fifth grade students are the charter group of students in our new Science and Engineering School who are learning to think like engineers and are spreading that excitement to the younger students at my school.
Implementing this Project Lead the Way curriculum is a challenge because budget cuts have not allowed me to purchase necessary materials for the lessons. We are currently working with about one third of the necessary materials needed.
We need two flip cameras for my students' Project Lead the Way unit of study on Mars Rovers. In this unit, my students will research different kinds of rovers, design a mock-up and prototype of a rover, and build and program LEGO NXT Robots. As part of the requirements of the unit, students need to document their trial runs of their robot programs and download those videos to a computer. At the present time, we are limited to one regular video camera to share among three classes that meet at the same time. The two flip cameras would allow all three classes to be able to truly record their progress. Without them, there will be a lot of "down time" as students wait to use the one camera.
Your help will ensure that my students are truly able to experience lessons like real engineers. You will make it possible for each classroom of fifth grade students to record their progress with their robot programming and performance. They will then be able to view their recordings with their team to decide ways to solve the problems with programming and/or performance.
