This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of high energy first graders. While I have a few that are sweet, kind and curious, I am sad to say I have more who arrive at school quite the opposite. They arrive at school each day hungry, not very clean and angrier then any first grader should ever be.
My students deserve a classroom that they desire to come to, one that’s welcoming and is the epitome of a safe learning community.
They deserve to have educational and inspirational displays around the room, a place to call their own, even if only for one school year. I want to change their anger to sheer delight and calm once they enter their classroom.
My Project
My students need the flex round floor table and the coordinating flex floor seating as an alternative to the traditional classroom seating. I teach 21 first graders in a room that does not all much wiggle room, we are literally on top of each other.
The flex floor table and seating offer a fun, colorful and super comfy option for my students to learn.
I can already see my students being their very best selves so they might be able to work at this station. Be it guided reading, sight word bingo or math games the flex furniture is a must have.
I also believe the mobile media cart is a necessary addition to our class. It would enable me to prepare more effectively for whole group instruction, interactive activities and more. This isn’t just any cart. It allows me to have multiple items (printer, laptop, books, supplies etc. in one place while choosing to be mobile or stationary.
