Flexing Our Reading Muscles with Flexible Seating and Reading Options
My students need Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats, other flexible seating options, and flashlights to comfortably enjoy and be able to better focus during independent reading/work time.
My second graders are spirited, inquisitive, eager learners attending a school of almost 700 students. They learn best when actively engaged in lessons and love to read and write about a variety topics, particularly those related to science and social studies.
Tremendous reading and writing progress is typically achieved during the second grade year with the students showing great pride in going from emergent readers to independent, fluent readers.
We explore a variety of literary genres and a love for reading and books is cultivated. My students love to observe nature and a variety of science demonstrations. Highlights of the school year include watching the development of Monarch caterpillars into adult butterflies, creating salt dough maps of the United States, and participating in reader's theater experiences.
My Project
Young learners need to have chances throughout the school day to be up and about and to choose a place to sit and work other than the traditional desk/chair configuration. Having a chance to move from time-to-time helps students to refocus and can minimize misbehavior in the classroom.
My students love independent reading time and the opportunity to cozy up with a good book of their own choosing.
They will love having the option of Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats and Flex-Space Wobble Cushions as alternative seating during this read-to-self time. The flashlights that I'm requesting will be utilized when we dim the classroom lights and enjoy independent reading time with a fun twist- Flashlight Fridays!
