My Students
How can I put into words the magnificence of my students? It’s not easy, but I'll give it my best teacher try :)
My students face a host of challenges, including living well below the poverty line and being forced to walk through gang-ridden areas to get to school, and they are uniquely talented, tenacious kids who are as determined as I am to ensure the receive the best possible public school education!
This year I have the honor of looping from 2nd to 3rd with a wonderful group of kids who are beating to odds and realizing academic and social emotional learning successes while making it their business to own their learning. WE ROCK!
My Project
This project is important for our classroom for a number of reasons. These terrific students at at the age where they are beginning to understand they have a certain level of responsibility and independence in relationship to owning their own learning, both within and outside of the classroom. With this in mind, flexible seating options will help make the learning experiences new and inviting each day. I am looping with my students, from the 2nd to the 3rd grade, and we are going to be in the same classroom space. As their teacher, I want to make this new 3rd grade experience unique and special for them.
Acquiring these new materials will allow my students flexible seating options, which provides for a more comfortable, inviting, and stimulating space in which to learn,.
The new choice seating will help my students understand they have transitioned from 2nd to 3rd, and will promote more collaborative learning practices among students. The pillows will be places around small tables, the yoga balls will be at the few traditional desks and also spaces around our guided reading table. The green chairs and rug will be placed into out classroom library space.
