My kindergartners are a mixed group of amazing 5-6 year olds. In my class I will have children who have never attended preschool/ daycare before. I will also have children in the same class who have attended 1-4 years of preschool/daycare. I will have children whose parent has been able to be a stay at home teaching them everything they feel is valuable in their lives! As you can see, I will have a mixed bunch arrive at my door in August! I will also have a wide variety of ability levels in my class. I will have some children who have never picked up a pencil or a book or know their names. I will have other children who have worked to the best of their ability at preschool/ daycare/ home to learn as much as they can. I will also have children who come in well prepared and reading fluently. It will be my job to differentiate all activities to meet their needs academically and socially. Thank you for this opportunity to enrich my classroom socially, emotionally and academically!
My Project
My students need Multicultural Play People and vehicles to add to our Block/ Dramatic Play Area to represent our beautiful diversity while socializing through play with peers! The translucent items including the clear bugs, letters, numbers and gems will be used to help build our fine motor muscles while socializing at center time. My students will learn so many life skills from these resources and block play! First, they will strengthen their imaginations. Kids can create a plan on their own or with a friend and see it followed through. Second, they will build problem solving skills. They will learn how to build what they plan and how to get along with friends while building a plan. Third, these materials will encourage self-expression. All children can express who they are through building. English language learner students, students with special needs, and all students can use these supplies to build and express themselves. Fourth, this kind of play will strengthen self-esteem. My students will discover that they have ideas that they can bring to life by creating, transforming, demolishing, and re-creating something unique. Finally, these hands-on materials will encourage development in all areas. My student will learn oral language skills, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, social skills, and all the skills listed above!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering donating to my kindergarten classroom project!
