Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a Title I school where more than 85% of students are economically disadvantaged and bilingual. Most are labeled at risk.
Our teachers create opportunities for students to actively engage in and drive classroom instruction.
Students enjoy the open discourse, sharing of their learning and creating products as evidence of their progress. Students as owners of their education might be the key to higher student growth and achievement.
A huge piece of the learning cycle is giving students flexibility in how, when, where, and what they learn. Providing hands-on activities, technology tools/resources, and an inviting classroom environment is vital.
My Project
Flexible seating like the Sprogs Vinyl Soft Seating Curved Stool/Bench, ECR4Kids SoftZone Butterfly Stool Modular Seating, Trideer Inflated Stability Wobble Cushion, Modern Casual Enviro-Child Upholstery Chair, and the ECR4Kids The Surf Portable Lap Desk/Laptop Stand/Writing Table will give students choice in deciding where and how they work best in the open grade level space.
Students need and desire flexibility in how and where they learn.
And as out students actively make decisions on what they learn and demonstrate understanding, they'll want more flexibility in the work space. Through the use of a learning management system, one-on-one mentoring, and goal setting, teachers are no longer the center of instruction. Students are driving the learning environment.
