My students need flexible seating to help them stay engaged in station activities. The different seating allows them to take ownership and it has shown to decrease behavior issues.
My students are from a Title 1 School in the suburbs of Detroit. This Transitional Kindergarten program gives children from all cultures, areas, and various incomes an opportunity to learn and thrive within the district before going to Kindergarten. My energetic TK students enter the classroom ready to learn, discover, and explore.
They love to read books, draw pictures, build structures, and pretend play throughout the day.
They light up as they proudly identify letters and discover sounds. They love to learn!
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During stations they move around the room and sit at different areas of the room. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting or laying on the floor with a pillow, and siting on the carpet. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. The different areas of the room with different seating helps them stay focused on their tasks.
The product that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices.
The comfy floor seats will allow students to sit at a lowered table to work with manipulatives or around the room with books. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! The comfy floor seats are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students’ work and behavior choices and hope that the additional options will help them with continued success.
