My students are innovative, creative, hardworking, and very thoughtful critical thinkers. They prosper when feeling confidence in their work and fulfilling their love of learning. They love the ideas of being given choices to enable them to take more ownership for their work and conquering their learning in full force. Building the foundation for a love of learning new information at a young age is crucial.
When learning is made enjoyable for them, the result is that their successes soar.
Watching students continually be successful in their learning is what every teacher yearns for.
My Project
This project is asking for lap desks, yoga mats, balance disks and other supplies to give my students choices to better engage in learning. Flexible seating options for the classroom have given students a chance to feel a sense of community and take ownership of their learning with comfort. This excitement feeds into the confidence of students in all subject areas in a world that may be constantly tearing them down. It has been proven that students who are comfortable and cozy are able to sustain more engagement, effort and participation.
Students in our classroom love to be given the chance to get out of their seats to learn.
Students love to work on the floor, sit on buckets, stand and/or constantly wobble and move. These reasons are why I chose the items that I did for my Flexible Seating project. My classroom environment relies majorly on communication, teamwork and independence/ownership. The portable lap desks/writing tables and yoga mats allow students to comfortably meet one on one or work with a group of students easily close by. The yoga mats allow students to move around the classroom freely with the options of sitting or lying down while working together or independently. The bean bag chairs were chosen as a comfortable meeting area for students to be given the options to meet with clipboards and work together. All of these new supplies will help in creating a classroom environment that encourages students to work together. The stability balance discs allow students to wobble or "jiggle" in their seats to allow for movement while still working and staying on task/focused. Not all students learn best by sitting still in a desk copying notes from the board. The items that I am asking for for my classroom will allow students the ability to learn and be the most successful students and young adults that they can be.
