Our classroom is full of 15 sweet, and curious NYC first graders! We have a diverse group of learners, in our integrated co-taught room! Our students present with a variety of special needs, including hearing loss, speech and language delays, and physical delays.
Coming from all five boroughs, our children are predominately CODA's or children of deaf adults!
Our classroom is rich with many different languages, first and foremost being the use of American Sign Language. They are a wonderful group of children who deserve all the best that first grade can offer them!
My Project
What does it look like when you're "listening?” What does it look like when you're focused? Are your hands folded on your lap? Do you tap the table with your finger? Shake your leg?
The truth is, listening looks differently on everyone.
I have the amazing opportunity of looping with my kindergarten class, and guiding them through the world of first grade! This presents me with the unique opportunity to arrange my classroom with the strengths and needs of my learners being the most important thing.
My first graders are an active bunch of children with a variety of language, physical, and social needs. Their want to learn is infection and their spirit is inspiring. However, sitting at a table or on a rug makes it hard for my students to focus.
With the ability to chose seating that promotes active listening and learning, I hope to help my students access as much learning as they possibly can!
