Flexin' in Fifth Grade: A Chair-iffic Seating Project
My students need flexible seating options including four exercise ball chairs and a tall bistro table with stools to help them stay focused and create a more positive learning environment.
You just walked through my door. What do you see? Twenty-five eager faces willing and ready to learn. My classroom is a safe environment where kids feel free to take chances, learn from their mistakes, and have fun!
My class is very diverse.
It is largely comprised of students of low socioeconomic status and free/reduced lunch. Affording resources can prove to be a challenge. A large number of my students qualify for Title I services and have struggles in their learning. Even though these students struggle, they yearn to learn. This could be the year they finally let go of their past hardships in education and begin to soar.
My Project
Utilizing flexible seating options in my classroom will allow students who struggle with focus, including but not limited those with ADD and ADHD, the ability to use a seat that they can get their energy out (bouncing gently on an exercise ball seat, for example) so they are able to stay focused and engaged in the content being taught. According to research, the use of flexible seating increases oxygen to the brain, blood flow, and core strength, which keeps children alert and focused in class.
Your donation of exercise ball chairs, a tall bistro table, and stools will do wonders for my class!
Not only will my students be able to have access to multiple seating options that will improve their focus and behavior, they will also be able to gain confidence as a student. How? With improved behavior and focus comes an improved learning environment for all students. Please join me in taking my students' educational skills, focus, and behavior to the next level!
