My classroom is abuzz with meaningful chatter. There's an organized flow and movement in the room. Students are interacting and negotiating with each other in different areas. It's great!
I have an amazing group of 3rd grade students who are collaborators and problem solvers.
I have a class of 24 students consisting of 16 boys and 8 girls. My students are diverse and unique individuals who enhance our classroom experiences in various ways. I encourage them to work together, help each other, and share their thoughts and their work. They bring so much into our classroom and we all learn from each other.
My Project
Let's face it, who wants to sit all day behind a desk to work? Children have a difficult time sitting still for a long period of time. They need to move around to be more engaged, and I incorporate routines in our classroom that encourage movement throughout the day.
Flexible seating allows students to make the choices that work best for their learning.
During group work times, my class can choose a location in the classroom that works for them. I recently moved schools and currently my students have a choice of the cold tile floor or the tables and desks as work areas. I have noticed that having a comfortable work space motivates students. I have seen a big difference in the way they interact and work on assignments together when they can face each other and access the work space easily. Often, they choose to work on the floor. We also do community circles on the floor to build better relationships in our classroom.
Having a large classroom rug will provide a comfortable working area for my students. It's an area where we can foster a community of happy and productive learners.
