My students need active learning stools, wobble cushions, a tall standing table, and floor pillows to add to our flexible seating options. They also need 6 MacBook cases to protect our new technology.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of excitement and eager to learn. They love to interact with each other and work together on group projects. Their favorite activities always involve using their hands to build and create. I love seeing them learn to problem solve and use their imaginations to create and improve their work.
I teach at a Title 1 school in Oklahoma, which means my students come to me needing much more than just reading and math skills.
Many of my students qualify for free or reduced price breakfast and lunch and are part of our school backpack program, which means that food is sent home with them over the weekend and long holiday breaks. Despite home life difficulties, my students are excited to come to school and embrace challenges with a positive attitude. I try my best to help them become successful, responsible, and caring members of society. I love watching them grow and learn and I am proud to be their teacher!
My Project
Flexible seating has transformed my classroom in more ways than one. My students love being able to have a choice in where they work and learn, and I have truly seen our classroom turn into a home by simply allowing my students to leave their traditional desks and choose a place to sit. They are more comfortable throughout the day and our classroom community has grown stronger as well because students feel that their voices are heard and that they have a say in their learning.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students' attitudes towards school and their product of work.
Last year I was able to add several different flexible seating options to our classroom and when my students were reflecting on their favorite things about the school year, almost all of them mentioned the different seating options we had as a favorite part of our classroom. In fact, they told me I needed to add more choices next year! How can I deny such a simple request that brings so much joy to our classroom?
The products I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The wobble stools and wobble cushions will allow my more active students to sit at different table heights while still being able to move while working. The floor pillows will be an added comfort to our reading teepee and lap desks that were purchased last year. The tall cafe table will provide a standing work space for my students who prefer to stand while they work. Finally, the MacBook covers will provide needed protection for our new technology while my students use the computers at the different seating options throughout our classroom.
