My students live in a small town outside of Orlando, Florida, and my students come from a variety of economic backgrounds. We are a not-for-profit charter school and, therefore, run on a smaller percentage of the money than county schools.
We may lack funding, but our students have amazing character and heart and work hard to be successful every day.
Teachers and students work together to embody our six character traits. In fact, last year our school won a National School of Character award and we are so proud of our students!
My classroom is a kid-inspired active learning environment where students have the opportunity to work in small cooperative groups and centers during much of the day.
My kids are very active, and I like them to have learning opportunities that allow for individual choices and cooperative learning. We spend many hours a day moving around the room and getting creative—kids are wiggly and they need a chance to move about and practice their learning in a way that interests them.
My Project
My students need a new Chromebook for our classroom. We use these on a daily basis for many different activities.
Chromebooks are the perfect classroom technology because they can be used in a group or taken to a corner for quiet time.
We use Chromebooks for science fair research, cooperative learning games, math practice, researching native tribes of Florida, writing practice, and so much more. Providing this flexible tool opens many opportunities for differentiated learning in my classroom. This year, we are beginning to use Google Classroom and with this Chromebook, students can connect to me and to others as they work. They will be getting a head start for middle and high school by using this learning tool.
