My students are a group of 16 hard working first graders in which many have IEPS and are ELL . They are a very active group in which they are always in motion. Many of my students have accommodations such as reduced distractions to themselves and to others as well as frequent movement breaks .
"Fair isn't everybody getting the same thing, fair is everybody getting what they need to be successful."
On a daily basis, I am finding ways to accommodate my students in different ways so they have a successful day. Whether it be their individual behavior charts, providing cool down strategies for when overwhelmed or frustrated, giving words of encouragement, providing positive reinforcements throughout the day and much much more!
My Project
Many students need to be in motion in order to be focused in their learning. On a daily basis, I have students kicking their legs, swiveling back and forth, standing or leaning back on their chair all while trying to do their work. Also, a couple of students would prefer to sit on chairs or stand during whole group lessons rather than sit on the carpet. All of these situations help my students stay focused and engaged in their learning.
Having wobble chairs in the classroom would allow students the opportunity to move while being engaged in learning and not a distraction to others.
Also, it will be another way to provide accommodations to my students with IEPS who need reduced distractions as well as movement breaks!
