My students need options to allow each of them to showcase their learning. Not every child learns the same way and I need options to help them all succeed. WE need chair bands, stools and more.
Our school is 85% poverty and our students overcome many challenges each day just to come to school. 8 out of 10 students at my elementary school receive free or reduced lunch. Although there are many struggles in these students' lives, they love to come to school each day and learn.
Their passion and love for learning is what makes being their teacher so incredible.
Watching their face glow with pride and excitement when they finish a book that kept them on the edge of their seat, or observing their problem solving skills to help them solve a tough story problem is what makes my job so rewarding. I want to provide the best and safest environment to foster their love for learning so I may continue to watch their brain grow with knowledge.
My Project
My class is constantly fidgeting in their desks because many of their desks or chairs are the wrong size for them. Our school district cannot afford new desks to accommodate my students rapid growth spurts. Their bodies are changing so quickly and they growing so fast it is hard for most of them to feel comfortable sitting at a desk for the majority of their day.
If I allowed them to sit on exercise balls or use bands to move their feet, they would be less distracted by their growing pains and more focused on my lesson for the day.
I would like to eliminate this small distraction in hopes that their minds may grow as quickly their bodies.
