Mrs. Barroso-Ramos from Miami FL is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Flexible Seats for Flexible Minds!

My students need flexible seating, like wobble chairs and balance ball chairs to release energy and have a challenge, while completing their coursework. Our special education room, encompasses a variety of needs which ALL would benefit.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten is the grade where most students, are experiencing school for the first time. It is a difficult transition for students, and it entails learning a lot of new skills. My classroom is a Special Education resource room, which consist of students with varying exceptionalities.

My student's exceptionalities vary from Specific Learning Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional and Behavioral Disability, Intellectual Disability, Attention Deficit Hyper-Active Disorder, Speech and Language Disability, Developmentally Delayed and ESOL students.

I provide my student's with individualized instruction to meet their needs, and work with other professionals, for example, those who provide them therapies.

Most of my student's come from low-income households. Many of them, are children who have recently come into this country. While others come from working-class families. A majority receive free and reduced lunch, but they are all here to learn!

My Project

Research shows that flexible seating has immediate impacts and long term impacts on our students. My students face a few extra obstacles when accessing their learning, but I want to show them their ability instead of their disability. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them seating options to make more effective learning choices. Currently, we only have tables with chairs and one rug.

Flexible seating benefits include burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture.

Wobble chairs and the chair ball with feet, will give students the ability to rock, shake, and move in all different directions while completing their work. They can also choose whether they want to sit higher or lower in the table. This helps to get the wiggles out, leading to concentration!! The Poly Spot Markers will make the room more accessible to students. They can choose to sit on the rug, floor, or any part of the room they feel is the best fit.

Giving students a choice in their education has shown to make a big impact in their educational motivation and eagerness to learn!
