Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students beam with brightness and positivity. They are wonderfully kind, inquisitive, and, of course, funny. Throughout their career as middle schoolers, they not only engage in academics but also engage in different clubs, sports, and activities to discover their identity, build their confidence, and create relationships.

My Project

This project is to start flexible seating in our classroom. Flexible seating is a purposeful seating arrangement designed to help students flourish as learners with the objective of promoting student choice, physical health, and collaboration. With this seating, students are empowered to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their positions and locations when needed. Flexible seating such as task chairs, stools, and soft seating provide opportunities for students to move that are not otherwise afforded by traditional seating. Flexible seating also allows for students to work individually, pair up, work in small groups or even big groups while easily moving things around to make it conducive to the activity students are participating in. In addition to traditional chairs, soft "comfy" chairs, and floor seating already present in the classroom, the impact of this project will provide more options for seating and options that involve movement to approximately 100 students each year.
