My classroom is a sweet and hardworking classroom. We are working on building our reading and writing stamina, staying in our carpet spots and at our desks when working, and keeping our voice levels at the appropriate level so we can all learn. We are learning to be mindful of our bodies, those around us and how we impact our community through class meetings and social skills curriculum that focuses on building executive functioning skills and mindfulness.
My students work hard to do the right thing but sometimes their bodies get the best of them.
We are working on regulating our bodies even after high energy activities such as recess and PE so we can get the most out of our school day. We practice yoga, deep breathing techniques, and self check-ins. My goal is to create a classroom where students are engaged, stay motivated and build self-regulation skills to help them be better learners, friends and community members.
My Project
My last donor's choose project was my first dive into flexible seating so I started small-with your support, I purchased 4 wobble stools and a large bean bag chair and boy have they been successful!
My students are typically respectful of one another and share the stools but we are ready to have more options available so they don't have to argue about who needs it more that day!
We are asking for 4 more wobble stools so at least one can be available at each table group. To increase student attention and engagement at the carpet, we are asking for 3 comfy chair seats and 3 wobble cushions.
This is my second year teaching first grade so I am still gathering the supports I need to minimize barriers to student learning. Thank you for helping me build my classroom into a place where all students find success!
