Along with a fabulous team of classroom assistants, my goal as a special education teacher is to create a classroom that feels like home. With our students, we are a bright, energetic, encouraging, and safe community of learners working together to accomplish goals and dreams. Anyone who enters here feels like they belong and are a part of a family.
My students are of elementary school age and have multiple disabilities.
They are bussed to our school from all across Rockaway Township. Despite their challenges, my students are eager to learn and grow as individuals. I am honored that I get to work alongside the women in my classroom as we help our students reach their full potential.
My Project
Studies have shown that students greatly benefit from having various seating options in the classroom. Many of my students enjoy grabbing a clipboard and doing their work in non-traditional spaces. For this project, I am asking for support in purchasing a flexible seating option that we would love to be able to offer my students.
Flexible seating is more than just "places to work" - they play an important role in the classroom.
By giving students choices, I believe that they are learning independence. Giving students choices also assists in learning to take responsibility and accountability for decisions. Additionally, it also fosters students to take ownership of individual learning styles. These are very important, yet difficult to teach, aspects needed in education. My students, their families, the classroom staff, and I truly thank you for your support!
