My students attend a Title I school in a rural community. Title I schools have a majority of students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My class is made up of a wide range of interest and ability levels. I have a lot of divergent learners who need to keep their hands or bodies active in order to learn. Giving the students seating choices will help keep these students on task and able to focus on the task at hand.
My Project
The bouncy chairs, wobble stools, and foam mats will give my students flexible seating choices that best help them learn. Young children are very active and need to constantly move in order to burn off this energy in order to focus. These seats will give them a place to move while they work.
Students who have trouble focusing will find benefit in using these seats.
During read to self time or writing time the students will have a way to channel their energy while not distracting themselves or their classmates from the task at hand. I think this will lead to an increase in student engagement and a decrease in behavior problems.
