Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is home to two half-day preschool classes, so we have twenty students in the morning and twenty students in the afternoon (forty students total). Our students are mostly ages three to four, with some five-year-olds. The classroom is also blended, meaning that some students are general education students and some have special needs.
Our students are inquisitive learners, so they love to explore, play and ask questions.
We do a lot of work with letter sounds, counting and number sense, read-alouds, vocabulary, science, social studies, learning how to be a good friend, independence, and how to work and play in a school setting.
Our students have a wide range of strengths and needs, so it's important to our classroom team to provide them with an environment that promotes exploring and learning, while allowing for differentiation. Thank you for taking an interest in our classroom and students!
My Project
A successfully funded project would mean so much in terms of accessibility for our students. Some students have sensory and mobility needs that need to be met when learning in a small or large group. During our time on the carpet, some students are still learning how to sit on the carpet, but feel more comfortable when given their own clear personal space or an alternative form of seating. Implementing multiple types of seating would help us to continue to build a classroom that takes all of our students into consideration and to promote an inclusive environment where students' needs are valued.
