My Students

My students come from an inner city, relatively impoverished community. Many are considered homeless and often don't have stable adults in their lives. Despite their struggles, they enter my classroom with vigor daily, challenging me and the other students to think outside the box!

Together we've learned to love graphic novels, symbolism, irony, and Romeo and Juliet.

English is not always their favorite, but they are hard workers and love connecting their learning to their daily lives. They love song activities and anything that lets them share their personality!

My Project

I have converted a corner of my classroom into an alternative work space for the students that don't work best in a traditional desk setting. I'd like to offer them a standing desk and a small table and chairs for some flexible seating. Although I already have some alternative chairs for the students, I'd like to add an end table and standing desk.

The standing desk will help immensely with the students who can't seem to sit still and the small table, paired with the chairs I already have, will offer a space for students who are a little more reserved or need more quiet to focus.
