My school is located in rural Indian Reservation town in Northwest Montana. My classroom consists of 20 students with a wide range of emotional, social, and educational needs. Our school is 100% free/reduced lunch and supplies our K-12 student population with two meals everyday that they otherwise wouldn't get at home. Many of my students are exposed to trauma, neglect, and a lack of parental/familial involvement at home.
With that being said, this is an amazing environment to work in.
The resiliency that shines through these kids is amazing to see. They come to school to escape the hardships faced at home and need to be supported by their peers, teachers, and school staff. I believe that giving them choices in the classroom is a large key to providing security to my students.
If this project is fully funded, your donation would go towards helping groups of students feel secure in their learning environment. This flexible seating project would give my students the freedom to choose what fits their learning needs best. Whether that be a hyperactive student sitting in a wiggle stool, or a quiet student sitting in the corner in a floor seat, this project will provide an array of options for student focus.
The days of sitting in a desk for 8 hours a day staring straight ahead a the whiteboard are a thing of the past.
Please help my students and future students continue of the path of success by giving them the ability to learn in a way that facilitates that success.
