My 4th grade students enjoy movement and hands-on activities the most. It is hard for most of them to stay engaged while sitting in a hard, uncomfortable chair all day. They often get fidgety and restless. It is hard to define the "perfect working spot" because it is different for everyone! Some of my students like using a wobble chair, while others prefer to stay at their desks. I want my students to grow in all areas of their learning, and I want to provide them with a variety of work spaces in our room. I would like the opportunity to offer them flexible seating options that will make them more comfortable while they are learning! A comfortable learning environment will lead to more student engagement, which means more success!
My Project
Just like we adults get tired of sitting in hard chairs all day, students do too! They need more flexible/comfortable seating options to enhance student engagement and learning. Studies show that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable. Students are able to bounce on an exercise ball, sit, stand, kneel, etc.
Some of the seating options that will be provided with this project are wobble cushions, wobble stools, and exercise balls.
All of these options will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning. I want to provide them with a variety of seating choices so they have an option to choose what works best for them as an individual student. My students need a variety of seating options including stools, wobble cushions, balance ball seats, as well as floor seats.
This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
