My students are a group of very diverse learners. They come from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. My school is a wonderful STEM and IB Title I public school that allows teachers to have autonomy in their own classrooms.
As an IB school, students focus on learner profiles, such as being open minded and reflective, in order to continually grow as both students and citizens with the goal to make the world a better place.
We foster an environment of safety and respect for one another. Students in my classroom work together daily in flexible small groups. Students also have the opportunity to help and learn from each other.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make choices that work best for them. During independent work time, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices.
Because many of my students choose to sit on the floor, the round table will allow a more stable working area for them when clipboards run out. The stools will allow a safe option for those that like to wiggle or rock while working without falling over.
