I teach a energetic, smart enthusiastic group of seventh grade students. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 80% of our students receiving free/reduced lunch.
Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Durham, NC.
We have a completely diverse population, and range from extremely high ability levels to extremely low ability levels. Many come from single parent families, and therefore, they might not always get the support that they need at home.
My Project
Students will use alternative seating to help with learning in a safe positive climate culture in my classroom. It is my personal priority in helping my students achieve! Alternative seating helps create positive learning environment learning environment for all of my students in a nontraditional way.
Alternative seating (floor seating, wobble chairs, lap desk), along with desk organizers for table groups, will give students access to things to help make learning easy.
When kids are taught to identify and honor their preferences for movement, fidgeting, and alternative positioning, they feel that their needs are being acknowledged, contributing to increased engagement and motivation in the classroom as well as an increased sense of community among the students.
