Our students come to school energetic and ready to learn every day! They enjoy movement and hands-on activities the most. It is hard for some students with disabilities to stay engaged while sitting in a hard, uncomfortable chair all day. Our diverse special needs population includes students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, Emotional Disturbances, and Learning Disabilities. They often get fidgety and restless. I would like the opportunity to offer them flexible seating options that will make them more comfortable while they are learning! A comfortable learning environment will lead to more student engagement, which means more success.
My Project
Our students come to school full of life and ready to learn! Just as adults get tired of sitting in hard chairs all day, students do, too! They need more flexible/comfortable seating options to help them stay engaged and learning. Studies show that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable.
The seating options that will be provided with this project are wobble stools.
This option will give my students with disabilities the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning. This project would significantly help my students stay engaged and allow for movement while they learn. I want my students to feel comfortable and at home in our classrooms. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
