Help me give my students a Flex Space Comfy Floor Seat! Providing these options for seating will allow my students to work in different environment and this type of seat can lead to huge differences in their success!
My students come to school smiling, eager and ready to learn every day; however, many leave not knowing whether they will eat, or where home may be that night. I focus on positive reinforcement and their individual strengths, because although, I have no control of their home lives, I can make school a wonderful, learning environment that excites and invigorates them to strive for academic excellence! I also know that the more students find their love for learning and the deeper it grows, the more likely they will be to come to school excited for what the new day may bring!
The students spend almost 2 hours a day working independently and I like to provide flexible seating to allow the students the opportunity to work in different environments.
My Project
Providing these options for seating to my students, rather than always requiring all students to sit in the provided rigid, uncomfortable classroom chairs, will be one of the first steps in allowing my students to be part of their own learning. By making a seemingly simple decision, such as what type of seat to sit in for the day, can lead to huge differences in the level of a child's success. First, this provides the students with locus of control in some part of their day. Next, they know themselves best, and we all work best when we are comfortable! In addition, I have never sat in a straight-backed hard chair for 7 hours a day, yet, we expect young children to do it! And, to do it happily and cooperatively! Finally, these seats provide a non-disruptive outlet for the children's energy, throughout the day. As you see, the question isn't really "Why?", but it is "Why isn't everyone?!"
