I am fortunate to work in a school that takes great care to balance academic success with students social and emotional wellness.
My students are creative, kind, determined, and supportive of each other.
They take on new challenges willingly and push each other to put out their best work.
Together, myself and the students have worked hard to create an environment where the students feel safe and free to be themselves and take risks. By doing so, we have really come together as a community. We share each other successes and work together when someone is feeling down.
My students have continued to show a growth mindset that will follow them through their time in school and beyond.
My Project
Flexible seating can range from just allowing students to choose their seats or move around the classroom more frequently to elaborately planned rooms with a wide range of seating options that allow students to choose to work at different heights and in different positions.
My class is currently using bean bag chairs and seat cushions, but there are not enough for every student to use throughout the day.
By having additional cushions, wobble chairs, and floor seating, my students will be able to move freely in the room to a spot they feel ready to work. This will also allow students to work in flexible groups throughout the room.
With flexible seating, I will continue to encourage collaboration in the room, while giving students seating choices that meet their unique learning styles.
