I teach special education in grades kindergarten, first, and second. By nature, this age is busy and active. My group of students have unique individualized ways they learn and blossom. They are eager to learn and achieve success in the classroom every day.
My students are full of excitement, curiosity, and energy.
They want to be as independent as possible. In this class, we build community around building each other up and celebrating our unique ways of learning. These little learners do best with kinesthetic learning.
My Project
Any of us would get tired of sitting in a plastic chair, and students with attention/concentration issues and occupational therapy concerns have an even harder time sitting in big tables and chairs. Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment.
Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work.
It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. My students work well with kinesthetic learning options where movement is allowed and promoted.
An uncomfortable student is unmotivated and distracted. Flexible seating such as the cushions, balance ball chairs and Wobble Chairs I am requesting can create the community feel of a team and of all working together.
