I work in a disadvantaged community school. Many of my students live below the poverty level and have little experiences with the world around them. Nevertheless, they are very excited about learning and are captivated by new information.
My students are curios, inquisitive, loving, kind, and respectful.
They enjoy learning and love being read to. Unfortunately, my students are struggling readers. In order to help my students to be their personal best I would like to introduce flexible seating in my classroom. I believe by allowing my students to sit and read in different areas of my room, they would be much more engaged in their reading. They often fight for the few coveted bean bags that are currently in my room. I would like to have more bean bags or chairs that they would like to go and use. I want my students to be excited about coming to school and learning. Having a classroom environment that is pleasing to my students is important to me.
Having bean bags that my students can use during independent learning time will help my students to be engaged in their learning. Studies show that students who have choice in their learning and the ability to get out of their seats are more engaged and accountable for their learning. Flexible-seating is about. Happier kids > healthier kids > better engagement > better results.
By providing my students with not only choice of a learning activity, but also flexible seating they will be able to reach their personal best.
I am excited about receiving the bean bags for my students. I know they will be excited too.
