Help me give my students options for flexible seating. Let's give my Special Needs students the option to pick where they will be more comfortable to learn.
My students have different disabilities ranging from Autism, physical limitations, learning disabilities, Down Syndrome and Speech Impairment classifications.
I would like to start the flexible seating initiative.
My students have mentioned many times that they would like to have this opportunity and it has been proven to increase attention and burn calories. My student's have made a list of different types of seating they would like. They mentioned a couch, adirondack chairs, end chairs, moon chairs, bean bag chairs and inflatable chairs.
I want my students to feel as though they are in an environment full of caring and support. Unfortunately I cannot afford to give them all that I would like. NYC does not fund our school with many supplies and resources especially for our special needs population. I am hoping through this site, I will be able to give my students a little something that will boost their confidence.
My Project
My project will give student's the option to sit where they will be comfortable. We have a choice to sit in chairs that make us comfortable, why not students? It has been proven that special needs student's can increase metabolism, burn calories and increase attention span through the flex seating initiative. Please help my classroom achieve this goal.
The various chairs will help with math and ELA when students need to focus the most.
I have students with cerebral palsy and scoliosis. Being able to be comfortable while attending to ELA and Math can help improve their work capability. I have been in high school classroom where this initiative has happened and I can see the results for myself. The student's have expressed many times to me that they would like this project in our classroom.
