My students are struggling learners with high needs from diverse homes often filled with stress, who gather at our Title I school. The students long for a safe, edifying environment to neutralize the stress from their home life.
My goal is to not only educate the students but to also give them strategies to help manage their emotions so they can have a mindset ready to learn.
With 91% low income students as well as 28% English Language Learners, I long to create an environment to encourage learning using many different modalities. We are making gains in learning, but we have much ground to cover!
My Project
Flexible seating for the student embraces that fact that my students are all unique, learn differently, and that I CARE about these differences. When I acknowledge the need to wiggle, lay, sit or stand while they work independently, there is a shift in the ownership of learning environment from MY classroom to OUR classroom.
Students in OUR classroom need to have the Active Kids Wiggle Chair to help those developing self-control during small groups or independent work.
The Wiggle Chair not only helps get their "wiggles out" while continuing to work, it actually helps them learn.
Research shows, kids who lack core strength often move around a lot. They find it hard to hold their body in a stable position so that they can concentrate and learn. "Active Kids" are often ones with poor core strength and will find a wiggle chair to help strengthen their core.
