Mrs. Lyles from Tulsa OK is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need flexible seating choices that encourage and empower learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The students in our Title I school are selected by lottery from the four quadrants in our district. They bring with them various backgrounds, both economically and socially, helping to create our school's unique diverse culture.
Learning through hands on experiences, encourages creativity and critical thinking, and day-to-day life skills our students readily accept challenges.
Our unique, open-design concept allows students to collaborate with each other. Collaboration doesn't stop at grade level. It is intertwined throughout all grade levels and abilities.
Their learning opportunities are endless!
In our classroom, students are provided with various seating possibilities. This allows for students to make choices for themselves about what makes them comfortable and how it will impact their learning experiences. Having the chance to make their own choices empowers them to choose seating that will allow them to be productive with their work. Not only does it allow them to be productive, but their peers will be productive as they are engaged in work and not distractions. Students are able to decide where to sit during independent work time and self-selected reading.
Students will have the ability to make their own choices that will impact their learning experiences and, incidentally, their peer's learning experiences as well.
Since this is my first year teaching, their current choices are the carpet, a sofa and their table chairs. The bungee chairs will be a fun addition to their reading area and is a wonderful incentive for choosing to sit and read alone or with a buddy. Because of their ability to fold and their light weight, the bungee chairs can be moved to other areas in our classroom for independent work time.
The wobble chairs will be a great addition for those who need to get their wiggles out, but students can continue to learn in the process. Providing opportunities for empowered learning will get kids excited about learning.
