Students in my classroom are fun loving and always hard working. Many of them come from families that aren't able to provide them with experiences and/or time they need to thrive. They all have their own personal stories about where they come from, what they like and don't like, and most importantly, they all learn differently. Every student should be given the opportunity to reach their fullest potential and many students can't do that with traditional ways of learning.
I want to be able to give my students choices.
I want them to be able to choose where they sit and learn how they can do their best learning within the classroom.
These seating choices will allow students to find their best learning style to reach their fullest potential. Students can sit on the floor with the soft seats or move and work on the balance balls. Some students need to move when they learn and some students do best laying down or sitting closer to the floor. A wiggly student doesn't make them a behavior problem, it is just a different way of learning.
Students will be able to take ownership in their learning.
Their ownership will reflect their differing learning styles and needs. After being given time to explore all of the different seating choices, students will have a good idea of which choice works best for them. And after that, they will be able to make those choices on a daily basis.
