My Students
Our junior high students are active, energetic, and unique. They are very involved within the classroom but often struggle at completing work at home. Junior high is often seen as a more structured environment where students move from class to class, desk to desk, and teacher to teacher.
For many of our students, school is a safe place for them to learn and be themselves.
We want to be able to provide a comfortable environment that is unique and meets the needs of each individual student, rather than conform to a "typical" junior high classroom setting.
My Project
It can be challenging for students to make the transition from elementary school to junior high. Students have to be able to transition classrooms and teachers throughout the school day. Students are often expected to stay focused for longer periods of time with less opportunities for active breaks.
Many of our students have shared with us that they are better focused in the classroom when they have the option to use alternative seating.
We currently use yoga balls, crate stools, lap desks, and clipboards but would like to expand the flexible seating options in our classrooms to help benefit the needs of more students.
