My Students

Next year I am excited to welcome 23 students into my first grade classroom! I would like to begin flexible seating in my classroom this coming year. I believe it will enhance our learning by making collaboration easier, build a sense of community, add a level of comfort, and make learning more fun!

Students come to school naturally creative, thoughtful, and eager to learn...why not make our seating a more fun environment to further foster this mode of learning?

I also utilize Daily 5 in our reading block, and flexible seating will lend itself to students having a choice in how and what they will be learning for the day.

My Project

Given a choice of seating arrangements, students will feel more empowered and have a choice in where and who they will work with each day. The balance ball desk chairs, stools, and garden knee pads will make learning fun in our classroom.

Students will be able to move and be able to collaborate with their peers and teacher with this type of seating arrangement.

Children need to be allowed to move. Flexible seating allows them to do so which increases their want to learn.

This type of learning increases communication, higher order thinking, patience and taking turns...much needed tools in the ever growing community of immediate gratification.
