My Students

I work at a school in Agawam, MA in the Connections Program. I am a special education teacher working with students in a self contained social emotional program. These students are amazing, entertaining, intelligent, and need a lot of love and attention. I teach the 3rd and 4th graders. They are a fascinating combination of young enough and mature enough to make a long lasting impact on them at this age.

I love working with this population.

I love see how much they can grow and improve both academically and behaviorally when their needs can be met with a small class setting and well trained staff.

My Project

I have a self-contained Special Education class. My students have social/emotional disabilities. Many of my students have anxiety and attention difficulties. Sitting at a desk is not always the best option for them. We often work in very small groups or students work with their 1:1 staff member. I like to have a relaxing classroom environment that promotes stress-free academic instruction with a comfortable reading area to promote high interest reading choices.

My project is to add some comfortable beanless beanbag chairs into my classroom environment.

Not only will this additional seating option give my students a comfortable place to do academics, it will also give them a relaxing place for reading. My students also require self-regulation breaks throughout the school day. This additional seating option will give my students a place to take a break from academics if they need it as well.
