Our students are fantastic! They come from a variety of backgrounds which makes the classroom a very diverse environment. The school is in an urban setting where we have many ELL students. There are over 700 preK-6th grade students at our school. Many of them do not have access to healthy meals, so the school runs a food pantry for students to take food home over the weekend.
These students want to do well, but many lack the tools needed in order to succeed.
My Project
My students need more options when working independently in the classroom, particularly when reading a great book, writing a wonderful narrative, or working with vocabulary. Students are more likely to be motivated to complete their work when they have many different comfortable seating options. Recently, we received a couple yoga ball chairs and recliner seats for the floor. My students love them so much that we need more!
Students need choices when it comes to where they complete their work.
I want my students to be comfortable in their classroom, and having a variety of flexible seating options is one of the ways to make that happen. Sixth graders have stamina that allows them to work in one spot for extended periods of time. Why not help them to be as comfortable as possible?
