I am a teacher in a Title I school. Some of my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Eleven out of my 16 students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Despite the challenges they face, they all look forward to coming to school! I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, bright, and very enthusiastic!
We are constantly singing, dancing, and playing our way through the standards.
My Project
Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Children need to move. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused. My project includes wobble chairs and balance ball chairs to use while working at their desks and comfy floor chairs they can use to read their books or use with clipboards.
Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive.
An uncomfortable student is a distracted and unproductive student.
Flexible seating helps make learning fun. I believe, in many scenarios, flexible seating can definitely be a win since it helps children not only feel physically but emotionally comfortable, and engages them to learn in a way that actually works for them!
Collaboration in the classroom is a very important aspect of a child’s education. Flexible seating will allow students the opportunity to collaborate with their peers.
