As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
They like to move, which is important for them to learn, they love to read and love lots of positive attention.
I teach at a Title I school in Florida where 82% percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch and 67% of the population is Hispanic.
Having the different flexible seating options will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. One way they will be used is as their I ready computer station and reading to self station in the library. This give students choice as to how they would like to sit in order to complete their station, rather than having to sit in a chair for the entirety of the school day; this isn't developmentally appropriate. This means students can sit on the floor on a fluffy carpet or lay in a bean bag chair so that they are comfortable and are able to focus better.
