Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 10-11 years old in the fabulous city of Rio Rancho NM, which is a suburb of Albuquerque. They come from differing family situations, ethnicity, social backgrounds, as well as different cultures.
My students are curious, kind, considerate, cooperative, chatty, loving, compassionate individuals.
Their individual needs vary as much as their personalities. They work well in groups and individually. They love learning and want to learn as much as they can. I like to provide them with rich activities to enhance their learning.
My Project
Students today are not like students of years past. They need flexible ways of sitting and doing their work so that they can fulfill their potential. By having traditional chairs, bar stools, yoga balls, students are allowed to choose the best seating option for them.
By giving students flexibility in their chair many behavior problems are non-existent.
They have a chance to wiggle, they have a chance to sit in a way that is best for them. When given the option most f my students choose bar stools and yoga balls over traditional chairs. Traditional chairs are often rigid and don't allow for movement. Studies show that movement is helpful for the brain. It also lessens the negative behaviors.
