I am a third and fourth grade special education teacher in a low income school district. This is my first year teaching, and I was blessed with a wonderful group of students. A lot of the kids that come into my room do not have the best home lives. I try to make my room fit the needs of each child so that they can feel special and give them the best chance to be successful. My kids come into the class everyday ready to learn. My kids learn a variety of different ways. I have some students who learn better by standing during the lesson, some who lay on the floor, and others that like special seats. Many students in my room just need to move in order to learn. A lot of my kids have ADHD and need to move constantly. Flexible seating will allow them this freedom and it will be in a constructive way. My students are very appreciative of the smallest things. I am hoping to be able to provide for them some alternative seating in my room and watch them achieve whatever goals they have!
My Project
These materials will make a huge impact in my classroom. My kids are very eager to learn and each have their own way of doing so. Being able to move around the room, while still having a place to work will help them become better learners. The small circles will allow for my students to sit at their desk and be able to move while listening to the lesson. The wobble stools will be great for when my students have to be at the reading table. The exercise ball will be a perfect spot for the kids to sit with a clipboard and complete their work and still be able to move and fidget. The pillow chair is going to make working on the floor so much more comfortable for my students who choose to do so. These items that I have chosen will greatly benefit my kids and how they learn.
The materials that I have chosen for this project will give my kids the chance to move and learn all at the same time.
Each student in my room is very unique. They have their own way of doing things, and I hope to make my classroom a place where they are given the chance to be the most successful.
