My 4th grade students come to class every day ready to learn and excited for what is in store for them that day.
My students are enthusiastic, hard-working, and determined individuals that strive to be successful in all that they do.
It can be difficult to stay focused on work when you're sitting in an uncomfortable chair all day. I would like to be able to offer flexible seating options that will allow my students to choose a comfortable learning space where they can work each day.
My Project
It can be tiring to sit in an uncomfortable chair all day. My students need more flexible/comfortable seating options. This will enhance student learning and engagement. Studies have shown that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable.
Some of the seating options will be wobble stools, wobble cushions, and exercise balls.
These many options will allow students to sit comfortably while they are learning. Flexible seating will also give my students the opportunity to be responsible 4th graders by choosing their own seat in the classroom.
Not only does flexible seating improve student engagement, it also helps with behavior concerns. Because flexible seating gives students a "choice" in the classroom, something they do not normally have, students who may lack motivation, or do not get as excited to start work, become motivated to find their favorite place in the room and get working!
This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and independent in our class. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating in our classroom!
