I have an incredibly curious and astute class that is very much into collaborative grouping. They enjoy working and discussing in groups on various projects, math equations and problem-solving, computer skills, reading group presentations, and collaborative group discussions.
Research shows that collaborative group work and flexible seating allows students to maximize their learning and thinking.
Having students work in table groups is an ideal situation to the many faceted aspects of the learning that is taking place in the classroom.
My Project
In this project, it would complete our flexible seating arrangements in the classroom. This project would include 1 table, 4 exercise ball chairs on wheels, and a classroom faux leather couch. These items will transform the classroom into a more comfortable learning environment. The couch may seem strange, but it will allow students to sit up front with clipboards and not obstruct others views. The couch will also allow students to have a comfortable spot for reading during our literacy block rather than sit on the floor or simply at their table. The exercise ball chairs are very study and would allow students to use them on a rotating basis.
