Mrs. Frander from Columbus GA is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a versatile work surface for center work and writing while on the floor. They could also use these Surf Portable Tables for working in teams on the carpet.

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. My students are smart, creative, and very sweet. They like to move, they love to be read to and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and they ALL receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My kindergarten students will enjoy working on the carpet and having a versatile work surface such as a Surf Portable table which will allow them the opportunity to work on the floor, in centers, or in the class library. Having an option of sitting at a desk or choosing an alternative seating choice on the carpet will give my students more opportunities to work in a comfortable environment. The Surf Portable Tables will be the first of many flexible seating options to come, in my classroom. With flexible seating, the more comfortable my students are, the more engaged they will be.
